I am about to start on my post grad school trip to Asia and Africa. Because many people want to be kept abreast of my travels, I am trying this new fangled thing they call blogs. I used to be quite the letter writer, but it seems I have fallen into the pattern of most people where my postcards and writing paper and envelopes sit in a drawer, and stamps are only used to mail those bills which can't be done electronically. So I am hoping this blog will allow me to share pictures and thoughts of my journey through Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Tanzania.
I have emailed most people by now, but here is another copy of my itinerary:
June 23: massage class at ITM in Chiang Mai, see Jon and Sandra?
June 30: travel and play with Leigh Ann (RPCV) and her cousin Jay in Zanzibar
July 11: safari in Tanzania
July 16: travel and explore Myanmar (I still say Burma)
August 1: Buddhist silent meditation retreat in Surat Thani, Thailand (I won't be emailing,
calling, or blogging for 10 days)
August 11: travel and explore Malaysia - scuba, KL, orangutans
August 28: see Tomas and A in Khon Kaen, see Phonphisai, Nonghkhai, my old town
Sept 5: fly back to Seattle
For those curious about my job prospects, I am looking at three contract jobs for when I return. Two would involve writing sex ed curricula for high school students. One would involve working with a statewide coalition in WA that seeks to make sex education accurate and honest for all students. And most likely, I'll continue tutoring this fall to supplement income.
I'm really excited for my trip, and I look forward to seeing you all when I return.
